William “Bill” Hampton Lowery

William “Bill” Hampton Lowery, age 83, of Somerset, KY passed away from this life on February 28, 2024 at home.
Bill was born July 15, 1940, in Oak Hill, WV to Willard and Lilly (Copley) Lowery.
Bill was a Navy veteran and was proud to have served aboard the USS Purdy on tours in the Mediterranean and Caribbean and in the blockade to Cuba (The Bay of Pigs). He worked 5 years for Western Electric in Arlington, VA before starting his career in the natural gas business in Oak Hill, WV, where he held various positions throughout the Cabot utility system. Before being transferred to Texas with Cabot he had become Cabot Corporation Utility Manager of West Virginia. In the Texas operations he was associated with natural gas gathering and processing. He also permitted with the Texas Air Control Board, SO2, and NOX emissions. He also served as Gas Control Manager in West Texas. After Cabot sold their Texas operations, he worked for Adobe Resources as Natural Gas Manager which included gas gathering, processing and transportation. Bill then accepted a position with the City of Somerset as Gas Service Manager in 1991, retiring in 2008.
Bill was a past president of Oak Hill, WV Rotary Club, past president of Kentucky Gas Association, he was a Somerset Colonel and also served on the Citizens National Bank advisory board. He was a Masonic member of Occoquan Lodge #310 AF & AM, in Occoquan, VA.; a member of the Scottish Rite 32o, in El Paso, TX.; a member of the Shrine in San Angelo, TX and also a member of the Royal Arch Masons in Oak Hill, WV.
He married the love of his life, Ava F Matney Lowery on August 11, 1988. After moving to Somerset, KY, he enjoyed Lake Cumberland, houseboating and his lake friends. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard Otto and Lilly Lowery.
He leaves behind to treasure his memory his wife Ava Lowery; children Bill Lowery Jr. (Cissy) of Henderson, NC, Joe Lowery (Tina) of Oak Hill, WV, Philip Lowery (Jennifer) of Egg Harbor City, NJ; step-children Andy Lowe (Kristi) of Alvarado, TX, Matthew Lowe (Mary) of Waco, TX, and Thomas Jay “TJ” Lowe (Lisa) of Oceanside, CA; 8 grand-children of whom he was very proud of; brother James Lowery (Tonna) of Spring, TX; and sister Sue Bailey (Roland) of Woodbridge, VA.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
At Bill’s request there will be no visitation, or funeral but only direct cremation and a memorial to be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
