Sylvia Mavis Green of Somerset, Kentucky passed from this life on Saturday, January 9, 2021.
Mavis was born on May 1, 1939 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, daughter of the late R. Cecil and Merle Gray Raynor.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and life partner Paul Matthew Green, daughter Susan Maiman and a brother Troy Raynor.
Mavis enjoyed laughing with her family and friends. She had an eclectic taste in music, and liked to read while looking for cardinals. Mavis cherished her K-9 companion and guardian, Cali. Mavis had a pure heart and treated everyone with kindness and patience. Mavis and her late husband Paul retired to Kentucky almost 20 years ago. They made lifelong friends and extended their family in the area. After Paul’s passing, Mavis continued his legacy. Re-established in a new neighborhood, Mavis had a new and different life where neighbors again became family.
Mavis is survived by three sons, Steven Michael Green of MI, Oregon (Sandra) Green of OH, and David (Tarrell) Green of TX, two daughters, Lisa Barrish of Nicholasville, and Marcelle (Roger) Simpson of London, grandchildren, Christopher Lee McLeod, Nichole Brass, Courtney Green and Nicholas Cross, Elizabeth Simpson, Sammy Simpson, Seth Green, Justin Green, Jarrett Green, Sara Powell and her husband Elige, Steven Jacob Barrish and his wife Cass; great-grandchildren, Isabella, Annabella, Alexander, Lucas, Emma, Ezra, and Ethan.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to your local Humane Society.
