Shirley F. Buell

Shirley F. Buell, 77, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at her home. 

She was born June 29, 1945, in Somerset, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Arthur and Charlotte (Strunk) Johnson. 

Shirley was a selfless, giving, and caring person with a great sense of humor. She loved tending to her plants, listening to Elvis, and playing bingo at the Senior Center in New Castle. Shirley greatly enjoyed taking trips with her family and most of all traveling with her family and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. 

Those left to cherish Shirley’s memory include her children, David (Tina) Buell of Largo, FL, Gary (Karen) Buell of Anchorage, AK, Angela Clark (Jerry Swanson) of Benton, TN, and Joe (Angie) Buell of New Castle, Indiana; grandchildren, Charlotte Buell, Chelsea Buell, Rachel Prince, Kimberly Buell Adcock, Gary Wayne Buell, David Clark, Gavin Swanson, Jacob Buell, Madison Buell, Bryan Buell, and “Tiny” Dave Buell; great-grandchildren, Ava Buell, Aaliyah Gordon, Alaina Gordon, Blade Howard, and Milo Abbott; a sister, Joyce Roy of Blanchester, OH, three brothers, Jim Johnson of Somerset, KY, Arthur “Junior” Johnson of Clearwater, FL, and Joe Junior Bounds of Cincinnati, and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, David Buell; two brothers, Eugene Johnson and Jerry Johnson, and by a sister, Betty Miller. 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023  from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 12 P.M.  

Burial will follow in Hollars Cemetery. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Shirley F. Buell.
