Michael W. Kean

Michael W. Kean, age 34, of Eubank Ky, passed from this life Saturday, September 16, 2023 surrounded by those who loved him, while doing something he loved. He was born on August 24, 1989 in Madison County, Indiana to his parents Paula Thurber and David Kean. Michael graduated from McCreary County High School and went on to join the US Army. He served in Afghanistan from 2009-2010 in the 82nd Airborne Division, 3rd Platoon Charlie Company 1-508 PIR. They say “Paratroopers never die the just slip away”.
On October 15, 2011, he married the love of his life Leah Kean. They have four beautiful children Bentley, Colton, Noah and Oaklee. Michael was a godly man and being a husband and father was the most important title he held. His other favorite title was coach. He spent many hours encouraging kids and teaching good sportsmanship on both the baseball and football field. In his last moments he was celebrating a win with the Eubank bulldogs. Michael also enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, and spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Leah Kean, 4 children Bentley, Colton, Noah, and Oaklee. His mother Paula Thurber, brother Tony (Sara) Thurber, Kristopher Kean, and Sister Autumn Kean. Grandparents, Nancy and Dennis Hardin, grandpa Ted (Jay) Thurber, great grandmother, Barbara Ice, Granny Mae Godsey. Mother in law Paula Russell (David), Father in law Kevin Russell, Sister in law Tosha (Austin) Gilliatt, Brother in law Stewart (Kristyn) Russell cousin Nate (Jessica) Kean. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews Haley, Hunter, Aiden, Philipp, Aria, Carter, Jameson, Jonah, Liam, Margaux, Dilynn, Dallas, Jessa and Kyran.. and the entire Eubank bulldog family. He was preceded in death by his father David W. Kean, grandparents Eugene and Darlene Kean, great grand pa Eugene Ice, and Pa Homer Lee Godsey.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations to be made to the Michael Kean Memorial Fund through Go fund me account or the bank account through Citizens Bank. Visitation will be held Thursday September 21, 2023 at 5:00 pm in the evening at Southern Oakes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 22, 2023 at 11:00 am with Bro. Donald Ashley officiating.
Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Southern Oakes Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
