Melvin Dennis Freeman

Melvin Dennis Freeman, age 90, of Frankfort, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY.
Melvin was born in McCreary County, KY, on June 4th, 1933. Son of the late Thomas “Virgil” Freeman and Emma Jane Freeman.
He was a member of Hickory Knob Baptist Church in McCreary County. He married Viola Christine Freeman on July 10th, 1952. Melvin served his country in the Army and was stationed in Germany. Melvin spent many years working for Hartzell Industries in Piqua, OH, as a millwright in which he retired in 1995 and moved to Somerset, KY. He was a well known musician who played in several area bands throughout the years. He and Viola were well known in local churches for their singing abilities and touched many lives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Virgil Freeman and his mother, Emma Jane (Worley) Freeman, brother Norman Steve Freeman, sisters Glenna Freeman, Betty Vetters, and Oma Jones.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 71 years, and 3 children, Ronnie (Judy) Freeman of Sidney Ohio, Debbie (Jerry) McNeil of Carlisle, OH, Jerry Freeman (Melissa) of Frankfort, KY; 5 Grand-children Matthew (Angela) Freeman of Sidney, OH, Bryan (Engrid) McNeil of Monroe, OH, Jon Freeman of Sidney, OH, Bradley McNeil of Middletown, OH, Luke (Kelsey) Freeman of Norwood, OH; 8 Great Grand-children and 5 Great Great Grand-children; sisters Carolyn “Teresa” Brewer of Greenville, OH and Judy (Jack) Wise of Sidney, OH.
He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.
Visitation service will be on Monday, February 19th, at 11am, at Southern
Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1pm.
