Elfreda Sue Thornton, age 76, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Rockcastle Health and Rehab.

Elfreda was born on June 16, 1946 to Dwayne Hoover and Claris Johnson Hoover in Russell Springs, Kentucky.

She was of the Christian faith, member of American Legion, AM Vets, she enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with family.

Elfreda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Thornton, brother, Gentry Hoover, sister, Charlotte Monroe and grandson, David Reid Thornton.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sons, Scott (Courtney) Thornton and Robert F. (Betty) Thornton; daughter, Regina Calder all of Somerset, Ky; sister, Kay Hoover Moeller of Indianapolis, IN; along with grandchildren, Charlie, Casey, J.D., Taylor, Dakota, Atlas, Paul, Luke, Summer, Logan and Maranda.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 1 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mill Springs National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Wieland, J.D. Thornton, Paul Thornton, Casey Bird, Luke Thornton and Bob Thornton.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Elfreda Sue Thornton.
