Dr. Murrell P. Stewart

Dr. Murrell P. Stewart age 93, of Somerset, Kentucky passed from this life Monday, March 9, 2020 at his home.
Murrell was born August 13, 1926 to the late Presley Stewart and Samantha Eva Alexander Stewart in Ruth, Kentucky.
He was a member of Flat Lick Baptist Church and Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Flat Lick. He was a college professor at EKU, a Marine Veteran, where he proudly served his country in WWII, former Superintendent of Pulaski County School System. He enjoyed teaching his college students, fishing, gardening when he was able, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids.
Murrell was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ferrell Stewart; sisters, Sarah Hargis, Eva Murphy, Alma Mounca, Edna Miller, Maxine Miller and grandson, Dr. Kyle Patrick Stewart.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of more than seventy years, Norma Pauline Stewart; son, Larry Stewart (Joyce) of Somerset; granddaughter, Daphne Tucker (Jason); great grandchildren, Colton Presley Tucker, Emily Kate Tucker, Lily June Tucker, and Kamryn Stewart. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from 6 to 8 P.M. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. Harold Brown and Rev. Gerald Ashley officiating.
Burial will be in the Bobbitt Cemetery.
Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Honor Guard Post 38.
