Bro. Montie H. Phillips

Bro. Montie H. Phillips, age 93, of Bourbon Road Community, Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
He was born on November 17, 1925 in Cedar Hill Community of Wayne County, Kentucky, son of the late Shird and May Ross Phillips.
He was a former co-owner of Food Fair Grocery Chain and a retired contractor, developer and builder. Bro. Montie was of the Interdenominational faith and believed in the word of God and lived it. He was a retired pastor and minister and after his retirement, became an evangelist. He was also the founder of Gospel Tabernacle. He was an avid coon hunter and enjoyed horseback riding.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark Allen Phillips; a brother, Starlin Phillips and two sisters, Adell Compton and Helen Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Phillips; one son, David (and Mary Lou) Phillips of Somerset; one daughter, Karen Lamb of Somerset; one brother, Luid (and Sylvia) Phillips of Bourbon Road Community; three grandchildren, David Wayne Phillips, Jarrod New and Karenda Lamb; and five great-grandchildren, Logan New, Blake Purvis, Jackson New, Kinsley New and Callie New.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, 2019 in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2019 in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Evangelist Ronald Vernatter officiating. Burial will follow in the West Cemetery.
Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Bro. Montie H. Phillips.

I got to know Monty a little and his son Mark a little more. I just found out Mark is no longer with us and that is sad.
