Jeffery Lee Phelps

Jeffery Lee Phelps, age 58 of Somerset departed this life on March 26, 2024 at Norton Hospital in Louisville following a brief illness. Jeffery went by many names, Jeff, Pig, Daddy, and then by those who loved him most as “big thang”.
Jeff was born on May 4, 1965 to Roy Lee Phelps and Lois Ann (Young) Phelps. He graduated from Pulaski County High school in 1983. Jeff married Tonya (Placke) Phelps on June 20, 1987 and they spent nearly 37 years adventuring together. Jeff made a profession of faith when he was a young man and was baptized at Clay Hill Baptist Church.
Jeff worked as a plumber for many years before becoming a state plumbing inspector. All who knew Jeff will remember him as a funny guy. He loved to make people laugh, whether it was with his most recent groan-worthy joke, or telling some daring story from his youth he always kept everyone laughing.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors and could often be found camping, hunting, riding around on his rhino or working out on the farm.
His heart belonged in the mountains and he was at his happiest when he was walking the streets of Gatlinburg with the people he loved most, or cruising the world with his wife.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Roy Phelps, his grandparents, Lester and Edna Phelps and Mary Katherine Kyle and one uncle, Jimmy Young.
Remaining to celebrate his life are the love of his life and wife, Tonya Phelps. His loving mother, Lois Phelps. His son Logan (and April) Phelps and daughter Chandra (and Don) Young. Four grandchildren Wynter “Weebus” Mason, Hunter “H-man” Mason, Sawyer “Saw-man” Mason and Theodore “Bear” Phelps. One chosen brother, Rodney Todd. Several aunts and uncles, Bert and Arlene Young, William Phelps, Janet and Don Spangler, Virginia and Darrell Whitaker and a multitude of loving cousins and friends who adored him.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. David Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Rock Lick Cemetery.
