Herbert Gary Curriden

Herbert Gary Curriden of London, KY, died Friday, March 1, 2024 at a hospital near his home. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Jimmiedean Curriden, who died in 2016. They were married 53 years.
Born September 2, 1944, in Salem, NJ, Herb was the second son of Francis Leroy and Edna Chester Curriden. Herb loved fishing, eating seafood and watching old cowboy TV shows. He was a volunteer firefighter in New Jersey and Kentucky. His father died in 2008 and his mother in 2023.
A giving and kindhearted man who loved God, Herb served as a missionary starting in 1971 at Camp Nathanael in the mountains of Southeastern Kentucky and later near Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany, for Baptist Missions to Forgotten Peoples. In between, he pastored two churches in Kentucky: Big Branch Chapel in Hindman and Calvary Baptist Temple in London. He was a member of Saline Baptist Church in Somerset, KY.
Herb is survived by three sons: Mark Curriden of Dallas, TX; Douglas Curriden and Jason Curriden of Lexington, KY. His older brother, Edward Curriden of Salem, NJ, a veteran, died in 2020. He is survived by Ed’s children: Melynda Curriden Peters of Charlottesville, VA, and Keith Curriden of Joppa, MD. He was especially close to two cousins: Bob and Jack Williams of southern New Jersey.
Herb will be buried Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11 a.m. in a graveside service at Saline Baptist Church in Somerset. In lieu of flowers, Mark, Doug and Jason ask that you make a donation to a missionary or to your church’s missions fund.
