SPC Brian Nathaniel Sears, age 23, formerly of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Thursday, October 26, 2023 in Virginia.

He was born on October 5, 2000 in Lexington, Kentucky, the son of Winford Brian Phelps and Tiffany Sears Wheeler.

Brian was a graduate of Southwestern High School Class of 2019 and was proudly serving his country in the United States Army as a Specialist. He was stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia. Brian loved mudding, riding his motorcycle, fishing and hunting. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Ariel Haught Wheeler and paternal grandmother, Linda Overbay Phelps.

He is survived by his parents, Winford Brian (Katie) Phelps and Tiffany Sears (Chris) Wheeler; brothers, Cody Daniel (Megan) Burton of Richmond, KY and Jackson Hunter Phelps of Somerset; sisters, Kelsey Rena Phelps, Jasmine Paige Wheeler, Alexis Gabriela Wheeler, Autumn Sky Wheeler and Braylee Mae Wheeler, paternal grandfather, Winford Phelps of Somerset; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Sears of Somerset; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 10am-12pm in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 12pm with Bro. Dan Gutenson officiating.

Burial will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
