With profound sadness we announce the passing of Kaye, our loving and devoted mother, Nana, sister and friend to all whose lives she touched, on August 14, 2023.

Losing either one of your parents or loved one is a heartbreaking experience to go through. This beautiful soul of our family will be missed terribly. She was a wonderful person who was there when she was needed. She was very loved and loving… a dedicated mother and wife first and foremost. She treasured her husband and sons, embracing every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana to David and Caitlyn. With the addition of her grandchildren, she expressed her wish to be called “Nana”. From then forward she became Nana to all of us.

Kaye was an exceptional cook and homemaker. She would recall, when she was still living at her parent’s home, getting up before dawn and preparing breakfast and packing lunch for her father. Through the years she created delicious feasts for family and friends, especially during any holidays.

When she and Harold married they had little in possessions to make a home.  This was when Nana embraced stretching the income as much as possible. In this way she loved to go “junking”. She often searched for bargain items that could be transformed into beautiful antique pieces after she refinished them. She could envision what a piece could become with some elbow grease. This served her well as the family moved around a few times for Harold’s profession. She would find new places to go junking and refinish more antiques. She had many of those pieces in her current home. She took pride in each house and making it a home for her family.

Kathleen Patterson Cole or Kaye or Nana to her family and friends, was born June 25, 1938 to Clarence and Martha (Hale) Patterson in the Patterson Branch community of Knox County, Kentucky. Kaye was one of five children born to this union.

She is survived by her son Randy (Cara) Cole, her grandchildren David Cole and Caitlyn Wynn Cole, her sisters Anne (Jim) Bays and Mary (Bill) Burch, in addition to several very special nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Harold Finley Cole, her son Hal Cole, her parents Martha (Hale) and Clarence Patterson and two brothers, John (J.M.) Patterson and Paul Kenneth Patterson.

To know even one life breathed easier because she lived is to know she truly succeeded while here.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 11 Am in the chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 12 Pm. with Bro. Sam Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Kathleen (Kaye) Cole.
