The world lost a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend when Kimberly Marie Hanson, 67, passed away on June 28, 2023, at the Jean Waddle Care Center with her family by her side.
An incredible mother who raised six amazing girls, Kim was known for her caring and calming spirit. Kim battled cancer, but it never stopped her from living life the way she wanted to – traveling the world, helping others in need, and giving the best hugs to her children and grandchildren. Always one to put her family and friends first, Kim devoted her life to her children and husband, Terry. She also sought to help those around her, from laying as a midwife and delivering over 50 babies to working as a holistic therapist for over 30 years so she could provide care and guidance to hundreds of people in need of physical, nutritional and emotional support.
Kim was born on January 28, 1956, in Flint, Michigan, but lived all over the United States throughout her life, including in Minnesota, Alaska, Missouri, Tennessee and Kentucky. Kim was passionate about life and lived it to the fullest. She especially enjoyed anything outdoors, including scuba diving, biking, kayaking, camping, road tripping and hiking. For the last 15 years, Kim derived great joy as one of the world’s leading geocachers, which led her to all 50 states and numerous countries. She formed many friendships in the geocaching community. She and Terry not only had a loving bond for 46 years, but amazing travel experiences together, visiting over 80 countries across all seven continents. But most of all, Kim’s passion was spending time with her kids and grandkids.
Kim is best remembered by her friends and family as a kind soul and an incredible cook, who touched the hearts and stomachs of her friends and family with unconditional love. Kim is survived by her husband, Terry Hanson; daughters Amanda Ainge (Ryan), Alyssa Donohue (Colin), Amily Hanson, Aunnaley Hasler (Phillip), Ariane Casey (Brian), and Allie Hanson; nine grandchildren; and, brothers Allan Habedank and Jon Habedank. She has been preceded in death by her father, Allan Habedank; mother, Beverly Holmes Habedank; and, brother Shawn Habedank.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. EDT on Saturday, July 8, at the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a memorial service to begin at 11 a.m. EDT with Jason Hunt officiating. Kim received genuine loving care while in hospice. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please send donations online to General Fund Hospice of Lake Cumberland at https://hospicelc.org/donate/
