Chestena Childers

Chestena Childers, age 82, of Somerset, Kentucky passed from this life Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

Chestena was born December 29, 1939 to Dewey Foster and Dorothy Ard Foster in Vinnie, Kentucky.

She became a Christian at Smith Grove Baptist Church and in her later years she attended Ringgold Methodist Church. She attended Nancy High School and worked for Palm Beach for 32 years and retired. She was member of Backwoods Sportsman Club, she loved being a granny, traveling, gardening, sewing, reading, Hallmark movies, loved Christmas traditions with family and loved waiting for her great-grandkids to come home on the school bus.

Chestena was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Dorothy Foster, her husband, Virgil Childers whom she married on November 15, 1958; sisters, Alfreda (Dale) Stringer, Jewell (Curt) Calhoun, Eloise Foster, brothers, Jerry Foster, Delmer Foster, Roger Foster, mother and father-in-law, Ray and Maudie Childers.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Janie (B.J.) Strunk, two grandsons, Barry (Sara) Strunk, Brian (Alisha) Strunk of Somerset; three great-grandsons, Gunner, Miles and Mason Strunk; one great-granddaughter, Lila Strunk of Somerset; 4 brothers, Elvin (Katie) Foster, Delvin (Lois) Foster, Jim (Susie) Foster, Benny (Mary Lou) Foster, sister-in-laws, Donna Jean Foster and Gladys Foster and special niece, Donna Marie Foster.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 5 P.M. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 10 A.M. at the funeral home with Bro. Ben Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Chestena Childers.
