Paul Edward Bolen

     February 10, 1930 - March 5, 2016

Mr. Paul Edward Bolen, age 86, of 214 Hickory Avenue, Somerset, parted this life to be with his Glorious Savior and Lord on March 5, 2016, at the VA Medical Center, in Lexington, with his loving family by his side.

 

He was born on February 10, 1930, in Norton, Virginia, son of the late Tom Walter and Maggie Goldie Thompson Bolen.  He was a very dedicated long time employee of the Modern Vending Company, of Somerset, and a soulful member of the Denham Street Baptist Church, of Somerset.

 

Paul served his country during the Korean War from 1951-1953, in the U.S. Army.  He considered serving America to be a great honor, and encouraged two other generations of his children and grandchildren to follow in his footsteps, by choosing to serve in branches of the military.

 

Survivors include his wife, Lillie Jones Bolen, whom he married on November 6, 1999, in Pulaski County; two sons, Clyde Edward (Stacie) Bolen, of Somerset, and William Thomas (Cathy) Bolen, of Laytonsville, Maryland; five daughters, Jo Anne (Wayne) Young, of Science Hill, Bernice Harness (Rodney Baker), of Nancy, Maggie (Benny) Hall, of Science Hill, Sherry (Michael) Flynn, of Bronston, and Debra (Robert) Ramsey, of Science Hill; two step-sons, Danny Jones, of Florida, and Bobby (Missy) Jones, of Somerset; one step-daughter, Janet Jones, of Florida; two sisters, Lois Burchett and Rosie Carol Allen, both of Monticello; seventeen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; several loving sisters and brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Vangie Perkins Bolen; his first wife, Clyda Imogean Martin Bolen, whom he married on April 18, 1953, in Wayne County; nine brothers, Robert Bolen, Carmel Bolen, Carl Bolen, Dewey Bolen, Oscar Bolen, Tate Bolen, Eddie Bolen, Sam Bolen and Ralph Bolen; two sisters, Mattie Rednour and Maybell Bolen; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

 

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 8, 2016, after 6:00 p.m., in Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Bro. Jeff Griffith and Bro. Ulanda Price officiating.  Burial will be in Kidder Cemetery in Bronston.  Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
