Lowell Gene Ard

     December 4, 1937 - January 6, 2016

Lowell Gene Ard, age 78, of Nancy, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center. 

Lowell Gene was born in the Naomi Community, on December 4, 1937, the son of the late Ollie and Lou Buchanan Ard.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Army Reserves.  Lowell Gene was best known as being a self-employed farmer, but had spent years as a truck driver and as a barber.  He loved horseback riding and camping.  Lowell Gene loved to make people laugh.  He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, in Naomi.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sue Roberts Ard; his son, Mark (and Lana) Ard, of Nancy; his daughters, Shellie (and Jimmy) Young, of Nancy, and Missie (and Zeb) Davis, of Monticello; his step-children, Michael Garner, of Nancy, Fran (and Luke) Turner, of Somerset, and Billy (and Lynn) Wilson, of Campbellsville; his brother, Nelson (and Rena) Ard, of Nancy; his grandchildren, Jason (and Kim) Turpen, Kyle (and Sarah) Turpen, Cody Light and Cory Light, Jaylan Woolridge, Jakobe Lasley, Tayshawn Benford and Kamara Sloan, and his soon-to-arrive grandson, Trevor Ard; his step-grandchildren, Mark and Daniel Wilson, Ayla Lovins, Christian Noel, Kailey and Easton Turner and Haley Davis; his great-grandchildren, Preston Turpen and Kaden Turpen; and countless special friends and loved ones, all who mourn his passing.

Preceding Lowell Gene in death are his parents; his brothers, Hollis Ard and Edwin Ard; and his sister, Inez Stephens.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 8, 2016, after 6:00 p.m., in the Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Bro. Lester Caldwell and Bro. Bill Meece officiating.  Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, in Naomi.

The family requests donations be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Building Fund.
