James Delma Smith

     November 3, 1932 - December 26, 2016

 James Delma Smith, age 84, passed away Monday, December 26, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on November 3, 1932, in Stab, Kentucky, the youngest of eleven children of Jeremiah Smith and Cora Emma Mize Smith.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of sixty years, Frances Harris Smith; four children, Sherre Smith Sharpe, Terri Smith Price, Ginger (and Greg) Baldwin and Greg (and Jamie) Smith; seven grandchildren, Trey Sharpe, A.J. (and Katie) Sharpe, Aaron Baldwin, McKinzie (and Florian) Loutre, and Cole, Kasey and Katelyn Smith; a brother, Vola Smith; a sister, Opal Whitaker; two brothers-in-law, Denzil (and Vinnie) Harris, and Harold (and Alma) Harris; and a host of nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Kenny Adams and Vonice Phelps, and special niece, Kathy Harris Pumphrey.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a granddaughter, Dana Nicole Price; four brothers, Riley, Lewis, Edgar and Edwin Smith; and four sisters, Lottie Phelps, Zula Mayfield, Beulah Smith and Melvina Inabnitt.

Mr. Smith was a member of Barnesburg Baptist Church and a Korean War Veteran.  He retired from the GE Somerset Glass Plant after 30 years of loyal service.  He loved family vacations, watching his grandchildren in school and church activities, fishing, playing guitar for his family, and cheering on the Somerset Briar Jumpers and the Kentucky Wildcats.  He was a kind, loving and witty person who brought a smile to all that knew him.  He will be missed by many.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 28, 2016, after 5:30 p.m., in Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Harold Harris, Bro. Tony Hall, Cole Smith and Aaron Baldwin officiating.  Burial will be in the Mize Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Kenny Adams, Greg Baldwin, Trey Sharpe, A.J. Sharpe, Aaron Baldwin, Cole Smith and Florian Loutre.  Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
