Colburn Barger, age 92, of Science
Hill, passed away on Friday May 20, 2016 at Hospice of Lake
Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.
born on May 8, 1924, in Perry County, to the late Mannon and
He was a veteran
of the U.S. Army, serving his country in World War II.
He married Edna
Holland, in Bellview, Kentucky, on November 30, 1946.
Colburn was a
retired tool and die maker for the General Motors Company.
He was a pilot and
enjoyed vintage cars.
Colburn was a
member of the First Baptist Church of Somerset, where he served
as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
He is survived by his wife of
sixty-nine years, Edna Holland Barger; his sons, Terry (and
Michelle) Barger, of Somerset, and Timothy (and Beth) Barger, of
Westchester, Ohio; his sister, Geneva Bonner, of Cincinnati; his
grandchildren, Adrienne (and Darren) Myers, Kyle Smith, Eric
Lawson, Jessica Barger and Sarah Cahill; his
great-grandchildren, Lee McCoy, Victoria McCoy and Jordan
Barger; and his niece, Cathy (and Jim) Wyatt, of Batavia, Ohio.
Preceding Colburn in death are his
parents; his son, Douglas Barger; and his brothers, Colsten
Barger and Kenneth Barger.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday
May 25, 2016 after 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Southern Oaks
Funeral Services will be held on
Wednesday May 25, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Southern
Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. French Harmon and Bro. Jim Fields
officiating. Musical selections will be by David Pendley. Burial
will follow in Mill Springs National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family
requests that donations be made to the Toni Pendley Nursing
Scholarship Fund, C/O First Baptist Church, 128 N. Main St.
Somerset, KY 42501.
